Measure clean, safely isolated components according to the collector manual and site procedures. Record where each measurement begins and ends; do not infer a tolerance from an illustrative guide.
- Identify the collector arrangement, access direction, component family, installed orientation, and mating parts.
- Photograph the full component, labels, top and bottom or end caps, seals, joints, supports, damage, and installed relationship.
- Measure overall geometry first, then fit details such as openings, shoulders, bolt patterns, gasket locations, bag tops, cage joints, or venturi interfaces.
- Cross-check the component against its mating part: bag to cage and tube sheet, cartridge to mount and gasket surface, or venturi to cage top.
- For a pleated retrofit, define the objective, available clearance, current bag-and-cage geometry, loading and dust behavior, cleaning arrangement, and maintenance change.

Can two cartridges with the same outside diameter and length be interchangeable?
Not on those measurements alone. Compare inner geometry, end caps, bolt or mounting details, gasket location and compression arrangement, support structure, cleaning direction, media, and collector or process requirements.
Which cage dimensions should be recorded?
Record where each measurement starts and ends, outside diameter, overall and section lengths, wire count and diameter, ring count and spacing, joint, top, bottom, venturi, material or coating evidence, condition, and relationship to the filter bag.
Does a pleated element always replace a bag and cage?
No. Review mounting geometry, clearance, filtration-area change, loading, dust release, cleaning design, support changes, maintenance goals, and collector-specific restrictions before deciding whether a retrofit is viable.
Should a damaged cage be measured?
Document the damage, but do not treat bent or worn geometry as the intended specification. Compare other positions, drawings, mating components, or an undamaged sample and mark every uncertain dimension.
When should a physical sample be supplied?
A sample can help when drawings and part numbers are unavailable, measurement endpoints are ambiguous, joints or seals are unusual, damage obscures the original form, or the mating relationship cannot be captured clearly in photos.
